After running the generator every 3 weeks the choke became a problem. I researched authorized Honda repair shops that have a pick up service. **special note** If you buy a large generator think about how you are going to get it to a service center!!*****
One place said that they didn't want to do warranty work (reported them to Honda)
and I finally found another place that would pick up for $65 round trip. Sounds good right? Well that was in January. Since then the told me I needed a tune up( $200). After about 4 hours of running???? OK OK I got it done. Then they returned it. Thank God I tried it before the delivery person left. It ran worse than when I gave it to them. Then they called me and asked where I bought it because it needed a circuit board...Thank God for the guys at WISE, they sent me a receipt within the hour. Now it is still in the shop awaiting " the part".
The moral of the story is that WISE is a internet seller that sets the bar quite high for others to follow. Honesty, integrity and great offers.
But buyer beware ( I really wanted to say Senior citizens ), sometimes it is better to get a generator with a parallel capability and use a transfer switch or 10 guage extension cords, than have a generator you can't take to be fixed.
WISE has a bunch of inverter generators that can be paralleled and as far as I am concerned, I wish I had taken that route. My bad judgement, didn't think about it having to be fixed!!!
Whether you choose Honda or Yamaha in parallel and buy form WISE you can't go wrong.
I will keep you updated on the repair progress.
!!!!! remember always use Sea Foam + Gas stabilizer and let the generator run out of gas before storage,,, or,,, drain the carb,,,,,and use the best gas you can...
I'll be in touch....
PS: the only reason for the 3 stars is I dont have the generator they do!
Now I had to show (Posted on 3/22/14)

Excellent Review by Murph
I purchased this generator last summer which I'm glad I did after this past winter in the North East, It was easy to set up and performed perfectly during 3 or 4 power outages. I got a 14 hour run on one tank full of fuel. It's very quiet so it doesn't bother the neighbors. It was expensive in comparison to other manufactures i.e."Genrac" which was given the highest rating by Consumer Reports in a recent article but in my opinion this rating was based more on cost than quality and reliability. Great piece of equipmentReview by Al
I decided that I didn't want to spend anymore time in the dark during Sandy, so I ordered the Honda EM5000S generator. It took longer to arrive than I was promised, but it finally came. I had a little juggling act with the assembly but after I filled it with oil and installed the battery it started like a charm. I decided that I didn't want to run extention cords so I had an electrician come out, make the installation so that it would run the entire house. The rest is history! I run it for approximately 1/2 hour ervery 4-6 weeks so that when it is needed, it will not fail me. Ahh...Peace of Mind. (Posted on 2/13/13)
**UPDATE**Review by Staten Island, NY
As of Dec.2 I have contacted several electricians located on Staten Island to install my transfer switch. I paid Aprox. $500 for the switch. These electricians wanted $1200-$1500 for the installation of the transfer switch! That would be a total of $2000 for the switch and installation. I ordered the heavy duty extension cords and will be running the genny that way. This is no fault of Wise!! Just a consumer FYI about what happens when electricians get too much work. Basically they didn't want a "small job" as was told to me by one of them! If I had known this I would have gotten 2-2000k Honda's and I would have had more flexibility in their use.
Thank God I was able to return the transfer switch.
And thank God for Wise. (Posted on 12/3/12)
Glad to have a generatorReview by Staten Island, NY
I had a tried and trusted Coleman Powermate 1850. It served me well for 13 years!
Preparing for hurricane Sandy I took the generator out and fired it up. It worked great. During the first 3 hours of the storm we lost power. I went outside and fired up the generator and it ran great for 15 minutes. Then it died. The repair man said it blew the engine. And no sense in repairing a 13 year old genny. So for the next 60+ hours I had to break out my camping gear for light and heat. I was warm and well lit but vigilant keeping watch over these propane products. I decided that at my age I wanted light and heat and a working fridge. After reading all the accolades about Wise I decided to order a generator from them. I originally wanted a 4000 but they were back ordered. So I ordered the 5000EM. I put the order in on Friday and received it on Wednesday. I was much larger than I expected and came on a pallet delivered by Fedex. After removing it from the pallet I stared the assembly. This baby is heavy! I put the generator on a dolly to have all the sides easily accessible to me. The directions to assemble it had one flaw. They want you to put the wheels on the axle first the attach it to the frame of the generator. Don't attach the wheels first. It only makes getting to the attachment bolts harder. It took a little translation but everything went smoothly until it was time to install the battery.
This required a bit of labor because the battery had to be tilted out and the wires attached in a little area. The wires don't have much slack.
after adding the oil and guessing about where to stop and adding the gas it was time to start up the generator.
I went back to the manual just to make sure everything was ready.
I turned the key. Thinking that the battery was not charged I wasn't very hopeful that it would start. But on the first try it fired right up. After it warmed up (it was at full speed) I turned on the auto throttle. It slowed down to an idle. A little rough but a slow idle. It smoothed out after a very short time. I will say that it did take me 4 hours to assemble from unpacking to start. And as a one man job this baby is heavy to maneuver . I bought extension cords from wise (a great value) and locally purchased a transfer box. I wanted the option of using it either way. I am now waiting for a electrician to contact me for the transfer box installation. I will update you after I have load tested on the house.
Great service from Wise, fast delivery, great price!!
I would without a second thought buy from Wise again. As a matter of fact I am thinking about a 2000ui for portable applications.
Thanks again Wise for great customer service. (Posted on 11/17/12)
Same Max as the EM6500SX, Less $$$Review by Winston Electric
I purchased several of these to install in customers homes. I am a die hard Honda fan! The EM5000 gives you the same peak wattage as the EM6500, for less money. It has 220v output and is reliable as they come. If you are looking for the 6500 watt, buy this one. It's available and less expensive. You won't be disappointed. (Posted on 1/21/12)
This over the EM6500Review by Edgar
I got this Generator over the EM6500 because they will both surge to 7000 watts but the em5000 carries less of a burden on the kids college fund. I figured in an emergency I wouldn't use more power, I'd use less. The only things I need to power are the sump pump, fridge and heat. I had my neighbor install a pig tail off the breaker box and the generator just plugs right in. This gen is louder than the eu6500, but also less than half the cost. I guess the true test will be when the power fails, hope I don't have to use it for a long time. (Posted on 12/19/11)
