- Great Snowblower Review by HLS

I have had a Toro 2 cycle single stage and the Honda AS520. Both do a great job, but being a 2 cycle the Toro required a gas/oil mix and accordingly emitted a much stronger exhaust odor. Not pleasant to breathe, and the odor gets in your clothing. I note that Toro has now discontinued the 2 cycle and put a 4 cycle engine on their new models. I have to agree with the people who say you the unit is pricey, but you get a much better snow blower. It would be nice if it were a bit cheaper, but if I had to replace it today, I wouldn't even LOOK at a cheap unit from the off brand makers. You'll have this unit a long time, spend a bit more and figure out how much it costs over 10 years. Easy decision... You'll be ENJOYING your snow blower while the neighbors are cursing theirs. **** BUY THIS SNOWBLOWER **** Starts on one pull every time! 4 years old and still the best blower in the neighborhood. Makes EVERY other snow blower including much larger ones preform like toys especially the Toro's. I'm done in 1/2 the time versus most others. The 18" Chicago blizzard of last year was no problem! I've owned Honda snowblowers for 25 years. Never been disappointed. I've had 2 previous 520 sized models and one big self-propelled model. The only time the snowblowers wouldn't start on the first pull is if the gas is too old, even with the gas treatment. I currently have this HS520A going on it's 3rd winter and operating like new. There isn't a small snowblower on the market that can perform like the 520....simply the most power and quality in it's class. By the way, I passed my older 520 (10 years old) on to my Son and it's still going strong, as is the big self-propelled which I sold when we downsized our home. i figured this machine was going to be good for cleanup after my simplicity did a bulk of the work but this little sob is really quite powerful. i'm sure the electric start is a nice feature but the 520a starts on the first pull every time. i do wish it had a quick shoot like the toro though cause turning the snow shoot can be a pain if the drive is not very long, wise does sell it at a good price but it gets 4 for quality cause it should have an easier way to turn the shoot. I bought this snowblower last year and was pleasantly surprised. It helped me get through some horrible storms. For heavier snow you need to help push a little bit, but for the most part it pulls itself right up my driveway while chewing up about 6 inches of wet snow. Also the Honda is very easy to start so I think this is better than the much pricier HS520AS. (Posted on 12/13/11)Value Quality
